Ford & Lustfield Law Office was established on January 1, 2023. It was previously known as The Ford Law Office owned by Hannon T. Ford. Hannon established his firm on the square in Windom in 2005 where he specialized in Estate Planning and Elder Law until December 31, 2022, when Cassandra Lustfield purchased the firm from Hannon. Cassandra graduated from the University of South Dakota Knudson School of Law in May of 2016, with a particular interest in the areas of Estate Planning and Family Law. She was admitted to the Minnesota State Bar in August of 2017 and had the opportunity to practice in Family Law at Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services (SMRLS) in Worthington, Minnesota from 2017- 2021 as her first job as an Attorney after graduating law school. Cassandra always knew she wanted a career where she could help people, which is something she is very passionate about. After a couple of years went by, Cassandra attended the local 13th District Bar Association Meeting and met Hannon. Turns out Hannon was looking to add an Associate Attorney to his firm and the opportunity sort of fell onto Cassandra’s lap. Cassandra started working as an Associate Attorney with Hannon in August of 2021. She hit the ground running and was able to obtain clients of her own right away after visits to Nursing Homes, meeting with Financial Advisors and presenting Estate Planning and Elder Law workshops in the local communities. It didn’t take Cassandra long to realize she had truly found her “Calling” in Estate Planning and Elder Law, and her passion for her job was the driving force. The Associate Attorney position at The Ford Law Office turned into an even greater opportunity for Cassandra when Hannon made the decision to move his family to Missouri and establish a new Estate Planning and Elder Law firm. Hannon had built this business from the ground up 16 years ago, and now had established a strong clientele and reputation in the community as one of the only Attorneys in the area who practices solely in Estate Planning and Elder Law. Hannon would then need someone to take over his business, and it made perfect sense for this person to be Cassandra. Owning her own law firm was never on Cassandra’s radar, but when Hannon presented this once in a lifetime opportunity to her, she knew she couldn’t take this lightly and needed to give it great thought and many discussions with her husband, Jesse. They lived in Slayton, Minnesota at the time and knew this was a decision that would not only affect Cassandra but their whole family and their two little boys. Cassandra and Jesse decided that since Cassandra was off to a great start, it would be crazy for her to turn down the opportunity. Cassandra continues to specialize in Estate Planning and Elder Law keeping the office location where Hannon established it on the square in Windom. Over this past year, Cassandra has transitioned into the sole owner position seamlessly, with the normal business start-up hiccups and stresses, and has been able to continue where Hannon left off with his Minnesota clients while creating a solid clientele of her own. Cassandra was very lucky to also keep the staff that were working for Hannon. She had been working with them since she started and was excited to start her firm with experienced staff that she already had a great connection with. Her staff are just as passionate as she is when it comes to helping people and they were a big part of the transition and getting the business where it is today. Cassandra is very excited to see where the future takes her business and can’t thank Hannon’s previous clients, her clients, and the community of Windom enough for welcoming her with open arms and being so supportive.
